"Finlay Donovan Is Killing It" by Elle Cosimano follows the chaotic life of Finlay Donovan, a newly divorced single mother of two desperately trying to navigate the challenges of both motherhood and her aspirations as a novelist.
During a lunch conversation with her agent about her latest murder mystery, Finlay is overheard and mistakenly identified as a contract killer.
Tempted by the money, Finlay decides “just to check out” the target, setting off a series of events that spiral out of control. And, drawing inspiration from this misunderstanding, she writes a confessional, disguised as her latest fiction manuscript.
While the book doesn’t market itself as a YA novel, Elle Cosimano, is a YA author, so I do think there was an inherit YA feel to the book. It was a cute, easy, quick read. Cosimano had a fresh, funny and almost satirical take on a murder mystery.
I won’t be running to the bookstore to read the rest of the series, but I enjoyed my read.
