In Jojo Moyes’ latest release, “Someone Else’s Shoes,” Moyes tells the story of two women whose lives suddenly cross.
Nisha Cantor, a woman used to the finer things in life, finds her world flipped upside down when she’s blindsided by a divorce. She’s left without money, with no place to stay, and with the brutal reality that her “friends” only last through the good times. She faces a new realty as she grapples to get her old life back. But, in a cruel twist of fate, she must find her lost custom pair of six-inch high Christian Loubuotin red crocodile heels in order to do this.
Sam Kemp, on the brink of losing her job and marriage, finds herself with newfound confidence after she accidentally picks up the wrong bag at the gym. Wearing Nisha’s lost shoes, Sam unlocks a different side of herself and finally finds some positives in her monotonous days.
I recently read this book in July of 2023 as part of a New York City based book club. And, while there were mixed reviews during our monthly discussion, I really enjoyed this book. Some found the book to be slow paced and long, and while it is long and does slowly develop, it’s a cute feel-good read. I laughed, I rolled my eyes, and I cringed.
